What would you do?
1. Don't waste a rich person's time. Get straight to the point.
2. Prepare ahead of time. Don't be lost for words.
3. Rap your best material. Save the wack stuff lol
4. Don't beg for a deal, that's lame. Show him you deserve it.
5. Give him a way to be able to get in contact with you in case he wants to follow up. Rap artists should carry business cards as well!
6. Follow up. That's right. Most mainstream artists want to see which of the indie artists are dedicated to their craft. If you are serious, you will come to them, not the other way around.
7. Don't be a stalker. Make sure he notices you for the right reasons not for having to show up in court to put a retraining order on you.
8. Stay motivated. If I have to tell you this then this might not be the industry for you.
9. Give him a demo. MAKE IT WORTH WHILE. MAKE SURE IT IS HIGH QUALITY. PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING. DO NOT HAND HIM A CD WITH YOUR NAME ON IT WRITTEN WITH A SHARPIE.
10. Don't send unsolicited music. When you meet Wayne with give your demo to him then or prepare for it to be in heavy rotation in the trash can. Make sure your music is copy written and published with BMI. Not to say that YMCMB is not to be trusted, but it will show them that you are professional and about your business. Most record labels will not listen to your music if it is not published. I remember calling P Diddy's office one day and his secretary picked up. I asked how to send my music that I wanted placement for and she asked me if it was published. I said no. The conversation was over. Same thing happened with a producer for Beyonce. I have learned the hard way for a great portion of my life lol.
11. Finally, if you ever get to meet Wayne, be sincere. Do not act like another obsessed fan. Fame is what everyone wants until they truly get it. Celebrities just want to feel like a normal person sometimes. Just be yourself and show him how cool it would be to kick it with you.
These steps can work for artists and plan ole' fans.
